What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is the procedure most patients fear and the one they are most relieved to have had. When tooth pulp becomes infected, the pain is often severe and persistent. Root canal treatment removes the source of that pain, saves the tooth, and stops infection from spreading.
At The Dental Atelier, all root canal procedures are performed by Dr. Mahnoor Maryam, our specialist Endodontist with FCPS training in Operative Dentistry and Endodontics. Under proper local anaesthesia, the procedure is straightforward most patients describe it as no worse than a filling.
Once the infected pulp is removed, the canals are cleaned, shaped, and sealed. The tooth is then restored with a crown to protect it from fracture. A successfully treated tooth can remain in your mouth for decades.

The Process
01
Diagnosis & X-Ray
We confirm infection using clinical examination and digital X-rays before any treatment.
02
Local Anaesthesia
The area is fully numbed — you will feel pressure, not pain, during the procedure.
03
Canal Cleaning
Infected pulp is removed and the canals are shaped and thoroughly disinfected.
04
Obturation
Canals are sealed with gutta-percha to prevent bacteria from re-entering.
05
Crown Placement
The tooth is restored with a crown to protect it long-term and restore full function.

Designed For?
Root canal therapy at The Dental Atelier in DHA Phase 2 Islamabad is performed by Dr Mahnoor Maryam, a specialist Endodontist. Severe, persistent toothache or spontaneous pain
Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers
Swelling or a pimple-like bump on the gum near a tooth
A tooth that has been deeply decayed or fractured
Anyone told they need a root canal and want a specialist to perform it
Is root canal treatment painful?
+
Root canal treatment is performed under local anaesthesia. Most patients report feeling pressure rather than pain during the procedure, and many say it was far more comfortable than they expected.
How do I know if I need a root canal?
+
Common signs include severe or persistent toothache, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, a swollen gum near a tooth, or a tooth that has become discoloured. A clinical examination and X-ray will confirm the diagnosis.
How long does a root canal appointment take?
+
Most root canal treatments are completed in one to two appointments, each lasting 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the number of canals and complexity of the case.
What happens after a root canal?
+
After root canal treatment, the tooth is restored with a crown to protect it from fracture. A successfully treated tooth can remain functional for many years with proper care.
